One of the Manasputras of Lord Brahma was Maharshi Bhrigu. Additional sages included Narada, Vasishtha, Atri, and Gautama. Among the Nine Brahmas, Bhrigu is recognized as one. His wives were Khyati, daughter of Daksha, Puloma, daughter of Kardama, and Usana. From Khyati came Dhata and Vidhata, two sons, and a daughter named Shri. As Lord Brahma’s assistant in creating the universe, Maharshi Bhrigu is also referred to as Prajapati or creator. Shri (Lakshmi), his daughter, became the wife of Shri Vishnu. She is known as Bhargavi because she is Bhrigu’s daughter.
The Daridrya Mochana Stotram speaks of the sage Sukracharya, who is the preceptor of the Daityas and another son of Bhrigu. Known as Kavi and Bhargava, he was born to Usana, and we will later delve into his life. Maharshi Bhrigu, a renowned sage, conducted many Yagnas and also helped others do so. He used his powers to grant others their wish of having sons and even resided in the Sun God’s chariot for two months. When Usana died, her powers were liberated along with the Devatas. It is said that Sage Bhrigu desired for Vishnu to experience life on Earth, including birth, death, and suffering like mortals. To bring his wife back to life, he used his powers once again. Similarly to how Vishnu accepted Sage Durvasa’s curse, he also took on the curse of another sage while protecting his devotee Ambareesha in an invisible form.
