About Temple
There is a huge rock in Namakkal, upon which there is a fort that is famous for its life-size Hanuman statue (Anjaneynar). The name Namakkal automatically conjures up the temple of Hanuman at Namakkal, the Namakkal Anjaneyar. The idol stands 18 feet tall and stands under the open sky. There is a temple of Narasimha opposite the Hanuman.
The golden crown, diamond earrings, gold garlands, and chains of Sri Hanuman decorate his body; fingers have rings; wrists have ornaments; the hip is covered with a golden belt; the right-hand hip is adorned with a short curved sword; the ankles are adorned with gold rings; such a beautiful and huge deity of Sri Hanuman; we couldn’t find anywhere else in this world.
History
As instructed by his guru, Narasimha Murthy, Lord Anjaneya brought the Salakrama Hills from Nepal and named them Namakkal. At Vishwarupa Dharshan, the Lord shows Himself worshipping on an open terrace, exposing Himself to natural disasters like floods, hot sun, and storms. People of Namakkal pray to the Lord to bless them with good sense, health, boldness, success, wealth, and fine speech. It is believed that He keeps growing in height.
Another notable aspect of this temple is that Lord Sri Hanuman prefers to be in the open air and does not want a roof over his head. Throughout history, numerous attempts have been made to construct a shelter for Sri Hanuman, yet he has consistently declined. According to legend, in a vision, Sri Hanuman revealed to one of his devotees: “My lord and master, Lord Sri Narasimha, resides within a cave without a roof as the natural hill itself serves as his cover. As my lord does not have a roof, I too wish to live under the open sky and serve Lord Narasimha eternally.”
