History
Located in the heart of Coimbatore city on the grounds of Arya Vaidaya pharmacy, Dhanwanthiri Mandir is a unique temple devoted to Lord Dhanwanthiri. Since its establishment in 1975, the temple has undergone significant growth and development. In 1977, the idols were consecrated and installed during the temple’s inauguration ceremony, known as Shadaadhara Pratishta. This ritual, led by the chief priest or tantri, involved reciting mantras while fixing six supports in the sanctum sanctorum.
Dhanwanthiri, the deity of medicine, is the revered Lord by the Vaidyas (AYURVEDA Physicians). This temple was established to provide a spiritual foundation for the Ayurvedic treatment tradition within the Aryavaidya Chitsalayam. The temple is skillfully managed by the warrior family and also houses the Aryavaidya Pharmacy, upholding its rich Ayurvedic heritage. Built according to the principles of Vaasthu, the Dhanwanthiri temple features several deities alongside its main deity – Dhanwanthiri himself.
