About Temple
There is a legendary temple known as Marundeeswarar Temple in Thiruvanmiyur, near the Bay of Bengal beach, in Chennai. It is one of the biggest temples in Thiruvanmiyur. This magnificent temple was built by Lord Shiva in his incarnation as Lord Marundeeswarar. It is a great Shiva temple in Tamil Nadu.
History
Valmiki Nagar is a place in Thiruvanmiyur named in his honour, and a temple is also built on the East Coast Road in honor of Sage Valmiki. The temple is close to the Marundeeswarar temple. To finish the project (of building the ECR), it was surprising that the builders of the ECR (East Coast Road) considered demolishing the temple of Sage Valmiki. As a result, the Tamil Nadu high court ordered that the temple not be disturbed and remain in its original position.
The lingam for which Lord Hanuman performed pooja, the lingam (meenakshisundareswarar) that cured Lord Indra’s curse, and the lingam for which Saint Bharadwaja performed pooja are all present here. Markandeyar performed penance and prayed to lord Shiva here; Lord Brahma is believed to have conducted a festival here for lord Shiva.
