About Temple
Under the leadership of the erudite scholar Mukkur Srinivasa Vardachariyar and others, devotees built the temple. In 1974, the foundation was laid, and on 5th April, 1976, the First Consecration Ceremony (Kumbhabhishekam – Kudamuzhukku) was held. It is administered by the Department of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, Tamil Nadu. To take care of the day-to-day affairs, an Executive Officer is appointed.
History
The temple is dedicated to Mahavishnu and Ashta Lakshmi, and follows the Ashtanga Vimana style of construction. This traditional method dates back to ancient times and can also be seen in other temples such as Tirukkotiyur, Madurai, Tiruttangal, Kanchi, and Uttiramerur. The temple consists of three floors with steps leading up to each one: Ground floor, First floor, and Second floor. What makes this structure unique is its three-tier system adorned with the various forms of Lord Vishnu – Standing, Sitting, and Reclining – on each level. For instance, Mahavishnu and Mahalakshmi are depicted standing on the ground floor while the remaining two corners feature shrines for the Eight Lakshmis.
