In the natal chart, Cancer is ruled by Chandra, the Moon. Mother, the Divine Goddess, is represented by Chandra, the second of the nine Navagrahas. The Moon is the presiding deity, Parvati. The Moon represents the feminine creative force. The Moon spends two and a half days in each sign, and it takes 28 days to circle them all.
The Moon governs our mental state, including our thoughts, feelings, and intuition. It is also responsible for our attachment to things and people, our ability to influence others, our moods, and our character. The Moon provides our soul. The Moon also governs fertility, childbirth, and pregnancy. Lord Chandra also controls plants and vegetation.
Chandra Ashtottara Shatanamavali contains 100 names of Lord Chandra. The Moon is praised as the lord of the wise men and takes away all sins. Additionally, it is praised in the text as fulfilling dreams and wishes, as well as the removal of ailments inherited from ancestors.
Located in the village of Thingalur, 33 kilometers (21 miles) from Kumbakonam on the road to Thiruvaiyaru in Tamil Nadu, is the Chandiranaar Temple. This Hindu temple, also known as the Kailasanathar temple or the Thingalur temple, is dedicated to Soma, the moon. However, its most prominent idol is that of Kailasanathar or Shiva. It is one of Tamil Nadu’s nine Navagraha temples. Notably, although Appothi Adigal, a devoted follower of saint Thirunavukkarasar, was born in Thingalur, no items associated with him can be found within the temple.
In addition to four daily rituals, the temple holds four annual festivals from 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Mahasivarathri, Margazhi Thiruvadirai, Panguni Uthiram, and Thirukartigai are the temple’s main celebrations. The village is only briefly mentioned in the Tamil Saiva canonical work Tevaram, written in the 7th century and categorized as a Vaippu Sthalam. It was written by Tamil saint poets known as Nayanars.
As with other Shiva temples in Tamil Nadu, the Shaivaite community employs priests to perform the pooja (rituals) during festivals and daily.
