Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system and the fifth from the Sun. Due to his masculine power, Jupiter is one of the planets with the strongest benevolent energies. Lord Dhakshinamoorthy rules it. In addition to Punarvasu, Vishakha, and Purvabhadra, Jupiter also rules Sagittarius and Pisces.

Known as Guru, Brihaspati, Devaguru, Viyazhan, Mannan, and Gnani, Jupiter is a vast planet associated with character, seriousness, meditation, prayer, success, honor, and fortune. In addition to karma from previous lives, divine favor, fame, religious thought, wealth, good character, honesty, justice, and health, it also symbolizes wealth and children. Jupiter is responsible for the lower abdomen, hearing, blood circulation, hip, and liver of the human body.

A ten thousand year penance was performed by Jupiter by consecrating Shiva’s idol, the Lingam, in Benares. Lord Shiva appeared before him and announced that he would be known as JEEVAN by the general public and that he would be the Devas’ Guru.

Alangudi, situated in the southern part of Tamil Nadu, is home to Jupiter’s most prominent power station. The village also houses the Apatsahayesvarar Temple, also known as Tiru Irum Poolai, dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva. This temple is located in Valangaiman taluk in the Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu. The presiding deity of the temple is a lingam representing Shiva, who is worshipped as Apathsahyesvarar. According to the Tamil Saiva canonical work Tevaram, written by Nayanmars, holy saint poets, Elavarkuzhali is portrayed as Parvati, Shiva’s wife. This temple holds great significance and is classified as a Paadal Petra Sthalam for its praise and devotion to its presiding deity.

Five-tiered gateway towers occupy two acres of the temple complex, one facing the Apathsaheswarar shrine and one facing the north. Elavarkuzhali and Apathsaheswarar are the most notable shrines in the temple.

The legend holds that Siva ingested poison, which gave rise to the name “Alangudi” and gave the deity the name “Apatsahayesvarar,” which means “savior” in times of hardship. There are sixteen waterbodies associated with the temple, including Aranyeswarar, the presiding deity.
